    How old must you be to enroll in your Driver Education program?

    This program is available to students and adults at least 15 years old. You must have reached your 15th birthday to start the online or traditional class

    How much does your program cost?

    The registration fee is $355 per student and is due at the time of registration. This fee includes the class (online or traditional) and 6 hours of in-car instruction. There is a discount applied when enrolling sibling groups. Please contact the office for more information.

    Can anyone enroll in your program?

    CIESC offers the traditional driver education class only at certain member school districts. The online class is open to all. We may not be able to provide in-car lessons. Please contact us for details.

    How much instruction time does each student receive?

    This program meets all state requirements: 30 hours of classroom (online or traditional) instruction and 6 hours behind-the-wheel instruction.

    When do I apply for the learner permit?



    The learner permit is not required before the start of class.

    CIESC recommends that students obtain the learner permit AFTER completion of the class portion (online or traditional). All students are required to take the written knowledge test at the BMV and this class will help them prepare for that test. 

    What documentation do I need to get his/her permit?

    The license branch will ask for the Certification of Driver Education Enrollment form. This form will be emailed after successful enrollment in one of our program options. Your student will also need to present an original birth certificate, original social security card, school report card as well as proof of residency. A parent may have to provide their valid driver’s license, original birth certificate or passport and 2 proofs of residency. Please visit the BMV website for more information.

    When is the road test given?

    After completion of both the online class and the in-car lessons, your student may request and pay for the road skills test by logging into the students DriverEdSafety.com account. There is a fee of $40 for the road test. The test may be requested anytime after reaching 15 years and 6 months. CIESC will not administer the road test if you registered for the online class only, the traditional class only or in-car instruction only. (fee increase as of June 1, 2017)

    After completing your program, when is my child eligible to get a Probationary License?

    Effective July 1, 2015 - Assuming the student completed both class and in-car instruction with CIESC, each student must be at least 16 years and 90 days and hold their learner permit for 180 days before applying for the probationary license at the BMV. (without driver education 16 years and 270 days)

    I’ve completed the online class through another online provider, can I register for in-car instruction only?

    Yes. Please be advised: CIESC will be unable to administer the final road skills test if you completed an online course with a different provider. Please view the In-Car Instruction only page for more information.

    I have not started the program since enrollment. Can I start now?


    Students will be withdrawn from the program and all fees paid will be forfeited two (2) years after initial payment/enrollment. If you would like to begin or continue with the program you must reenroll and pay the current enrollment fees.

    If you enrolled less than 2 years ago, you may continue with the program by contacting the office.

    What is your privacy policy?


    The driver education program adheres to the guidelines set forth by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Along with parents and students who have reached the age of 18, the following peopel may access student records and information, school officials with legitimate educational interest, organizations conducting certain studies for on hehalf of the shcool, or specified officials for audit or evaluation purposes.
    CIESC uses secure technology to protect any personal information provided to us, however, we cannot guarantee that your submissions to our wesite or any transmissions from our server will be completely secure.
    Your information (ex. name, address, email addresses) is not collected for any purposes other than direct communication with CIESC. This information is not sold or provided for marketing purposes.

    Where will the classes be held?

    CIESC's driver education is an at-school after-school program. Classes are held at the particular schools listed. Room numbers may not be immediately available but should become available at least 1 week before the class begins.

    How long is your program?

    For most schools, classes will be held Monday through Thursday for 3 weeks for 2.5 hours per day. Please check individual school page for class time.

    How do I submit my child's registration?

    You may register and pay online (using a credit card). Registration forms are also located in the main office at your high school, as well as on our website. Forms may be submitted by mail or fax only. Mail registration form and payment to:

    Can I register by phone?

    No. At this time, we are not accepting any registrations by phone.

    Is there a deadline for submitting registrations?

    Registration deadline is 1 week before the class begins.

    Can my child attend classes at a different school?

    Yes. If space is available, students are welcome to attend classes at locations other than their own school. Parents are responsible for transportation to and from their school choice.

    How do I get my child to and from driver education class?

    Transportation is the responsibility of the parents. Some adjustments may be made within the driving groups on the first day of the course by the driving instructor.

    Can my child be paired with a friend?

    Yes. If your child needs to be assigned with a specific student for carpooling reasons, include this information on the registration form .

    When can my child need to get his/her learner permit?

    When will my child begin behind the wheel driving?

    Once your student has obtained the learner permit from the BMV and our office informed of readiness, an instructor will be assigned by email. You must make contact with the instructor to arrange the driving schedule.

    Can students begin behind the wheel driving at the same time they are in the class?

    Yes. As long as the permit has been obtained, students may drive with the instructor or parent.

    My child is going to miss 1-3 days of class, will he/she need to make up time missed?

    Yes. Any hours missed is required to be made up. On the first day of class your child will need to inform the classroom instructor of which days he/she will miss and the instructor will then explain the options available for making up the time missed. Missing 1-3 days of classroom will not jeopardize your child's eligibility to enroll in our driver education program. Any days over 3 will result in withdrawal from the program and forfeiture of fees paid.

    What is your refund/transfer policy?

    To receive a full refund our office must be contacted before start of class. There is a $50 fee for all refund or transfer requests made after the start date of the class. (Please allow up to 6 weeks for processing check refunds)

    What are the start dates for the online course?

    The online class is an open enrollment, start anytime course. You may start at your convenience assuming that you are at least 15 years old.

    Can anyone enroll in the online course?

    The online class option is open to all students at least 15 years or older. In order for CIESC to provide the in-car lessons, students must have the ability to drive from one of our member schools. Please see school choices by clicking on View School Locations to your right.

    How long will it take my student to complete this course?

    The online course may be completed in a minimum of 15 days (including the online final test). Students are only allowed to complete one unit per day. The course must be completed within 120 days. updated October 31, 2016

    How do I pay for an extension of the online course?

    Please call the office at 317-759-5560 to make payment over the phone with a credit card. The $50 extension fee adds an additional 120 days to the online course.

    Each extension request requires the extension fee. There is no maximum on the number of extensions allowed however a new Certificate of Enrollment (CDE) will not be issued until the course has been successfully completed.

    We recommend waiting until the student successfully completes the class portion of the program, if enrolled, before obtaining the learner permit. The license branch will ask for the Certification of Driver Education Enrollment form. This form will be emailed after successful enrollment in either the class (online or traditional), in-car instruction or package. Your student will also need to present an original birth certificate, original social security card, school report card as well as proof of residency.     When will my child begin behind the wheel driving?

    The student must be registered for the in-car instruction portion of the program. Once the permit has been obtained, typically after completing the class phase, our office must be notified in order to be assigned to an instructor and begin the 6 hours of behind the wheel instruction. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with confirmation that the permit has been obtained and the student is ready to begin instruction without conflicts. The instructor will work with the student's availability to create the driving schedule, including evenings and weekends if necessary. The 6 hours of instruction must be completed within 120 days once assigned to an instructor. After notifying the office, please allow up to 4 weeks to be assigned to an instructor.

    Where are the pick-up and drop off locations?


    In-car instructions will be provided from the following high schools: Avon, Beech Grove, Ben Davis, Brownsburg, Carmel, Center Grove, Decatur Central, Fishers, Franklin Central, Greenfield Central, Greenwood, Guerin Catholic, Hamilton Heights (summer only), Hamilton Southeastern, Heritage Christian, Lawrence Central and North, Lebanon, Mooresville, New Palestine, North Central, Perry Meridian, Pike, Plainfield, Southport, Speedway, Warren Central, Western Boone, Westfield, Whiteland and Zionsville.

    Can students begin behind the wheel driving as they are taking the online course?

    It is recommended that the student complete the online class before obtaining the probationary license. If the student used the Certificate of Enrollment (CDE) to obtain the learner permit, they must successfully complete the online class before beginning the in-car instruction. 

    Can my child be paired to drive with a friend?
